Donate A Quilt

All done with your beautiful new quilt but don’t have a specific service member in mind for gifting? Check out these organizations for donating your work to help gift a veteran a quilt.

We also encourage quilters to reach out to their local VFW and veterans' organizations, many of which can put you in contact with specific local service members.

Important: some organizations have specific guidelines for the quilts they will accept in terms of size, materials, colors, etc. Be sure to consult the organization’s website before beginning your project to ensure it will be accepted.

Freedom Quilts, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of comforting mourning families. Over the years, their efforts have been dedicated to those families who have lost a loved one in the 9/11 tragedy and to the families of our fallen soldiers. American Hero Quilts was established in 2004 to provide recognition and appreciation to our wounded service men and women who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  They think of each quilt as a metaphoric hug and a way to express our gratitude for their service to our country. American Hero Quilts has over 800 volunteers participating in their program, ranging from piecers, binders, quilters to other helpers, including generous contributors. As of the end of 2020, they have provided approximately 30,200 quilts to deserving men and women and their families.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOV) began in 2003 with a dream, literally a dream. Founder Catherine Roberts’s son Nat was deployed in Iraq. According to Catherine, “The dream was as vivid as real life. I saw a young man sitting on the side of his bed in the middle of the night, hunched over. The permeating feeling was one of utter despair. I could see his war demons clustered around, dragging him down into an emotional gutter. Then, as if viewing a movie, I saw him in the next scene wrapped in a quilt. His whole demeanor changed from one of despair to one of hope and well-being. The quilt had made this dramatic change.” Catherine saw the message of her dream as Quilts = Healing, and she founded QOV to make that dream a reality.
