MSQ’s Abridged Quilt

This month, we’ve been sharing lots of fun photos of the process of making our Abridged sample over on our Instagram feed. In this post, we’re going to dig into all the details of our sample quilt!

Kristy’s pattern comes in three sizes. We made the Throw size, which is extra long, so it’s perfect for even the tallest recipient. The pattern also includes alternate layout ideas that can be incorporated into any of the sizes.

Kristy stuck with the patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme but purposely chose fabrics that had a touch of metallic to them. The background fabric is Speckled in Metallic Navy by Rashida Coleman-Hale, the cream is Add It Up in Metallic Copper by Alexia Abegg, and the red is Spark in Metallic Roadster Red by Melody Miller. Look how that Speckled fabric sparkles — such a fun effect!

Lilo quilted our sample using the Chevrons panto, which adds so much movement — both vertical and horizontal — to a quilt that otherwise has a lot of straight vertical lines. Kristy then topped off the quilt with a striped navy Moda binding. She liked the striped look, and while it doesn’t include metallic, the lighter tan hints at it.

If you can’t wait another minute to make your own version, head on over to Kristy’s store to grab your copy of the pattern. And don’t forget Kristy is donating 100% of the proceeds from the pattern this month to NAMVETS, the National Association of Minority Veterans of America, so pick up a copy of the pattern now to stretch your impact for some very worthy veterans. You can check out this post for lots more about Kristy’s collaboration with MSQ. Happy quilting!
