MSQ’s Homecoming Quilt
This month, we’ve been sharing lots of fun photos of the process of making our Homecoming sample over on our Instagram feed. In this post, we’re going to dig into all the details of our sample quilt!
Brittany’s pattern comes in three great sizes, from baby to bed. The bed quilt is a generous twin, offering makers a good variety to work with, whether they’d like to make their vet a quilt to snuggle up in a chair with or sleep under. For our sample, we made the throw, which measures 53” x 71”.
Kristy knew from the start that she wanted to try out some neutrals with this quilt, the first of our samples to do so. This gentle palette is definitely a quieter version of “patriotic” and shows how great a service quilt can look in something other than red, white, and blue. The “color” fabrics in the quilt are all from Carolyn Friedlander’s Kept collection. The background is Dear Stella’s Dash Flow basic in Marzipan. It’s gives such great subtle movement in a quilt with a lot of background space.
That being said, this quilt also rocks in red, white, and blue, as you can see from this quilt Lilo made when Modern Service Quilts was just a twinkle in her eye (you might have noticed it before on our homepage) ...
as well as the fabulous mockups made by Christine, our web designer.
Lilo quilted our sample using the Cornerstone pattern, which added some nice vertical movement to the quilt while adding a delicate texture. It’s particularly stunning on the backing, which is a classic Essex yarn-dyed linen stripe. Kristy finished off the binding on the quilt with the dark gray Kept fabric (a bit of a modern take on a stripe), which creates a striking frame for the design.
If this winter beauty has you wanting to jump in and create your own version, then head on over to Brittany’s store to grab your copy of the pattern. And don’t forget Brittany is donating 100% of the proceeds from the pattern to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), so grab your pattern this month to stretch your impact for some very worthy veterans. You can check out this post for lots more about Brittany’s collaboration with MSQ. Happy quilting!
