MSQ’s Love & Stitches Quilt

This month, we’ve been sharing lots of fun photos of the process of making our Love & Stitches sample over on our Instagram feed. In this post, we’re going to dig into all the details of our sample quilt!

Megan’s pattern comes in an amazing six sizes, from baby to king. In our sample, we actually split the difference between the Small Throw and Throw sizes, keeping the width of the Small Throw but adding an extra row to make it longer. With the 12” block size and simple layout, this is an easy one to modify to fit your needs.

And don’t let the curves scare you. They’re big and gentle, perfect for even a beginner.

The softer version of a “patriotic” color scheme that Christine chose was based on a Folded in Love quilt made by our November designer, Jessica Schunke of Blue Sky Modern Craft. We thought the combination still nodded to the standard red, white, and blue palette but in a sweeter way that might appeal to a whole new group of veterans. The hearts are made using the Add It Up basic by Alexia Abegg in Chambray, Polar, Navy, and Strawberry. The background is Stitch and Repeat in Lace by Cotton + Steel, another great basic.

But these hearts can go in so many other directions, too. Check out this version made by Megan herself. The chambray background is a classic, and the soft pinks in the hearts are balanced by the darker mustard shades for a whole new look. And Christine, our web designer, created a whole range of great mockups for your creative inspiration.

Love and Stitches Mockups

Lilo quilted our sample using the Loop T Loop pattern in a nice, big size, which keeps the quilt super soft while filling in the off-white background with more interest. The larger quilting design also works well with the microfleece throw she used for the backing. You can just feel the softness looking at the pictures. Christine finished off the binding on the quilt with more of the navy Add It Up fabric, but she added some interest by interspersing a few sections of the lighter colors.

If this beauty has you wanting to jump in and create your own version, then head on over to Megan’s store to grab your copy of the pattern. And don’t forget Megan is donating 50% of the proceeds from the pattern to Team Rubicon, so grab your pattern this month to stretch your impact for some very worthy veterans. You can check out this post for lots more about Megan’s collaboration with MSQ. Happy quilting!
